Feature of Research

Various high-performance liquid-alloy coolants (Pb, Pb-Bi, Li, Pb-17Li, Sn, etc.) are currently being researched in our laboratory for use in fast and fusion nuclear reactors worldwide. Experimental investigations of the synthesis and thermophysical properties of these materials are underway.

Outline of Research

  1. Development of liquid-alloy coolants
  2. Materials compatibility of liquid-metal coolants
Materials compatibility is important for the development of liquid-metal coolant systems, and the kinetics of corrosion–erosion under flowing conditions are being investigated by our team. Materials compatibility was improved by chemical control of non-metal impurities in liquid metals.
